Before relocating his family, Mechech traveled to Rowan County, North Carolina, & while there on 16 Sep 1796, bought 100 acres from Thomas Hilton on the waters of Hunts Fork of Abbots Creek near the later town of Lexington.
He appears on an 1815 tax list of Randolph County, North Carolina with 129 acres. He is last found in this county 6 Feb 1821 as a carpenter. Found in the 1830 Census of Grayson County, Virginia, is a Meshack age 20-30 with a woman aged 50-60.
