Hi, I am responding to a query you made looking for the sons of Alma and John King. I know David and Michael Jon King. My hubby used to deliver Foremost Milk to their store, Hay's Big Star, in West Helena, Arkansas back in the 1980s. They are both nice men. I am sending you an article about their stores . I did not know their parents, but you might be able to contact Mike or David from information listed in the article about Hays Foodtown. As for me, I am Jan Marie FARRIS Sansing and I am related to a lot of Hays,( by marriage ) maybe we are all relatives somehow. I am related to Hays family by way of Daniel Boone. My grandparents with several Greats in front of Grandpa and Grandma Van Cleve were in-laws to Mr. and Mrs. Squire Boone,Sr ( parents of Daniel Boone and Squire Boone, Jr. )They are all buried in the same church graveyard in North Carolina. Daniel and Squire Jr. who was married to my ancestor Jane Van Cleve , and their families moved on to Kentucky along with many of the other Van Cleve family members. There were some Hays there too and one of them, Wild Bill Hays, married one of Daniel Boone's daughters and they moved to Missouri . My Boone and Van Cleve families moved on to Calloway Co. , Kentucky and then to Cario, Illinois , before moving on to what is now Stone County , Arkansas.

HAYS is a family owned and operated company that was established in Blytheville in 1935. This store is still located on Main Street. The current owners are David A. King and Michael J. King.
A store was opened on the ‘Square’ in Hayti, Missouri in 1948 but is now located on Lincoln. The Caruthersville, Missouri property was purchased in 1973 when it was located on Ward Avenue—it has now moved to 13 th Street. A second Blytheville location was established in 1987 at Days Shopping Center.
In 1977, the first HAYS FOOD TOWN, INC. was purchased in Wynne, AR. A supermarket was purchased in West Helena, AR in 1981, and a second, larger store in Wynne was added in 1986.
HAYS expanded in May of 2001 with the purchase of five stores--two locations in Jonesboro, two in Paragould and one in Walnut Ridge.
Over the years, HAYS has seen many changes and slogans. Some of the slogans are as follows: “HAYS, The Friendliest Stores in Town”, “You’ve Got a Friend at HAYS” and “It Pays to Trade With HAYS”. These are slogans that we at HAYS strive to live by in our daily work.
David and Mike state “it has never been the goal of our family to be the biggest, our philosophy is to strive to be the best.” We want to be the best in fresh quality products, superior customer service, competitive prices and convenient locations.
Each of these stores has its own unique personality and reputation for interacting with their customers. “They strive to sell satisfaction, as well as groceries.”
* David’s two daughters, Amy Louise Gullic and Susannah King both work in the company. Amy’s husband, David, is the assistant manager at # 39 in Blytheville. Mike’s two sons, Jon David King and Mickey King also work for HAYS. Their sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Rick Skillen, work out of the Wynne office.
