HEIN GRIMM

( - )

The "Lehenbuch" (book of fiefs) of the Keppel Convent begins in 1494. On the Wednesday after Easter in 1517 the Dame of the Convent, leased to "Hain Grymen", son of Heinchen, of Neder Holtzclahe the farm "that he formerly held and now holds in fief" for a term of six years. So he had held a previous lease since 1511, and probably his father died before 1510. In 1523, Elizabeth von der Hees, abbess of the Convent from 1517-1523 leased the farm to "Hayne Grymgen of Holtzkla for another six years with the provision that within two years her repair the buildings or renounce the fief. Hein Grimm appears to have died about 1525 which caused some difficulty for his son Heit concerning the repairs.
Tax lists show a Hannes Gryme who may have succeeded his father, but died soon after leaving the farm to Heit Grimm. There may have been a third son, Johann, who moved to Osthelden and took the surname Keppel from the farm where he was born.
