Note online at WorldConnect, Rootsweb.com
My father R. J. Delzell, was born near Fordland, east of Springfield in Greene Co. MO in 1858 [other records show 1851, 1853]. He left home at the age of 13, because of a step-mother he disliked. He found his way to Uniontown, Arkansas, 19 miles north of Fort Smith, where he married my mother Cordelia Remy in 1877. He never communicated with his family back in Green Co., and we learned little from his people.
From the above website I also learned that the name was probably original Dalzell and most of the early arrivals in America were Scotch-Irish. Robert was probably the son of Samuel Johnson Delzell who married Mary Pemberton, 25 Apr 1850 in Jackson Co MO.
Living in Cass Twp, Greene Co, MO, 1860 Census.
