George Flynn

(Abt 1725 - )

The Poindexter book gives George a birth year of 1730, the "Far Flung Flinns" says 1725.

Tithables for Lunenburg Co in 1752; Taken by Cornelius Cargill.
Lofflen Fline, James Fline, and George Fline - 4 tithes.
If George was 21, he was born before 1731 and he could have been older.

In 1752, a George Flinn purchased 166 acres from Gabriel Davy, Lunenburg Co.

In 1755, he appeared on the tax lists of Orange Co, NC and is mentioned in Court records there in Jun of 1758 and Aug of 1765.

2 Aug 1763. Orange Co NC Court Minutes
Ordered that George Flynn be appointed Overseer of the road in the room of Robert Donalson.

He is said to have been in Orange Co NC in 1755 and back in Mecklenburg VA by 1775. His daughter Rebecca was apprently bound out to the Rev. Cameron & wife in 1775 [Mecklenburg].
Mecklinburg Order Book 4, p.300, 13 Feb 1775: stated that George Flinn does not take proper care of his children and his daughter Rebecca has been chargeable to the Parish and is bound out to Rev. John Cameron and wife.

There has been no record found of the division of the land of Laughlin Flinn between his sons James & George. However, James, in 1771, mortgaged the tract to Matthew Marable, stating that he had purchased the whole from his brother George.

He moved to Christian Co KY about 1798, along with a William Flinn, probably a son.

Mecklenburg Co VA DB 9, p.436
16 Jan 1798 George Flinn of Christian Co KY, appointed James Yates of Robertson Co TN his attorney to go to Mecklenburg, concerning 450 acres of land, claiming title by virture of a will made by Laughline Flinn devising the land to be divided as the devisees should agree. The land lies on the south side of Bluestone Crk, adj Sir Peyton Skippers. Signed: George Flinn
Jan 1798, George Flinn acknowledged same at Robertson Co TN
11 Jun 1798 - proved in Mecklenburg Co 11 Jun 1798
Mecklenburg Co VA DB 10, p.13
29 Sep 1798 George Flinn of Christian Co KY appointed Sir Peyton Skipworth of Mecklenburg his attorney to demand, sue for and recover 450 acres devised by Loftin Flinn in his will recorded in Lunenburg to James Flynn and myself. Which land is now in possession of Robert Boyd. Signed: George Flinn.
It is my opinion that James Flynn may have died at this time and George was attempting to get his land back. George may have died himself in the next few years.

George was listed on a Livingston Co KY tax list in 1804 - Livingston having been formed from Christian Co in 1798.

Deed records from Livingston Co KY indicate George had children. Living in Livingston from 1815 to 1833 were a younger George Flynn whose wife may have been Sarah "Sally", Obadiah Flynn whose wife's name was Polly, and a William Flynn. There was also a Delilah Flynn who purchased land and livestock from George & Sally.
Deeds in Livingston Co., 1833, list George Flynn as being of Jefferson County, Territory of Arkansas.
Livingston Order Book I
19 Apr 1839 Joseph Hughes, appointed guardian to George Flynn, heir of Obadiah Flynn, dec'd. A deed in 1816, named Polly Flinn, wife of Obadiah, for her part in the estate of her father Thomas Hughes.
Rebecca, the daughter bound out in 1775 does not appear in Kentucky records.
