I'm not sure this couple stayed married. In 1860, Dist 10, Jackson Co TN, there is a James Goolsby, age 37, b. TN, and living with Sarah Goolsby, age 22. In 1860, Synthia was living with Elmore Carrington who she eventually married.
Mark served as James M. Goolsby in the in the Civil War - Company B, 28th TN Infantry, Confederate.
On the 1880 census James is listed as age 59 but then his name is lined through with the notation "dead".
