By 1820, George Brooks lived in Stokes Co NC - Forsyth formed from Stokes in 1849 making him a resident of the new county. George Brooks & Wife Elizabeth of Stokes Co NC to Obadiah Nunally of Caswell Co NC, 25 Jun 1820, tract of 206 acres in Caswell on waters of Hogan's Creek. Caswell DB V, p.109. This is the tract left Elizabeth by her grandfather John Hudnall, who had purchased it from Joseph Arnett.

George's brother Henry is said to have moved from Caswell Co about the same time. They engaged in several land deeds and Henry acted as his agent.

Eliza R., age 63 and Daniel I. age 28, the only child still living at home. Son Charles listed next in the Census, but in his own household.

To wife Eliza R. Brookes, during her natural life, 2460 acres including dwelling house, home plantation, mill, cotton gin, store house, barns, and all outhouses which adjoins lands of Moses Barrow, Esq., Ashley dwigings, John Hester, and others, on waters of Belewes Creek.
Also the following slaves with all increase and those born after the date above: Abram, Charles, John, Adam, Isaac, Hundson, Harry, and Edmond; also Liza or Lizgary and her family of children and grandchildren; Ammey and her children and grandchildren, say Pheby, Ataetelana, Calip, Jerry, Hamilton, Jeff, Isabellers, two grandchildren of Phebys, making the number fifty-two. Also all my household goods of any kind, also all horses, hogs, cows, and provisions on hand at y death including grain, rough food, bacon, pork, etc. Also carriage & harness, bugg and harness, two horse wagons & harness.
If my wife should again marry, that she retain only a life estate in 600 acres around my home tract and 300 acres taken off the M. Calep land adjoining the home tract, on the East and West. The 1860 acres be immediately divided between my six children - Geo. W. Brookes, Robert H. Brookes, Charles B. Brookes, Maranda Dillard, Eliza J. Crump and Ann Amanda Withers. and that she reatin a life estate in the following property: seven negroes of her choice, five horses of her choice, one road wagon, one carriage & harness, five beds and furniture and necessary household furniture.
After the death of the wife and equal division to be made of all real & personal property in which she had life estate between my six children, Sally Ann Wither, Geo. W. Brookes, Robert H. Brookes, Charles B. Brookes, Eliza J. Crump, & Maranda M. Dillard to hold for life and then to their sons lowful begotten in wedlock.
My executors are to collect all moneys dus and to disposes of by sale such as may be most to the interest of my family, all real and personal property not herein specially divsed. Moneys raised to pay just debts and expenses - the balance to be equally divided between my three daughters and three sons.
My wife Eliza R. Brookes to be executrix; son Charles B. Brookes, Executor.
