Revolutionary War Pension File W.10311 - John Q. Dabney, and Sarah. John Q. Dabney of Scot Co KY was a privated in the company commanded by Capt Moon under the command of Col Lynch in the Virginia Militia for 9 months. Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky 4 Mar 1831 at $30 per annum. He was in the 69th year of his life when he applied. He was in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse under Capt Jacob Moon and Lt. Rice in the regiment commanded by Col. Charles Lynch. Attached to Col. Washington's Infantry. In the same year he served under the command of Capt Tho. Leftwich, scouting from Richmond. His last tour was the taking of CornWallace at Little York under the command of Capt. Charles Calloway. His widow Sarah was inscribed on the Roll at the rate of $96 per annum beginning 27 Jul 1868. Sarah applied 11 Jun 1856 at age 56 years in Daviess Co, KY. John Dabney had died in Scott Co on 7 Jun 1832 (a note written in states this is an error as he had been paid to March 4, 1833). She was married to him on the 9 of June, 1818, Fayette Co KY. On 9 Dec 1856, William N. Sweeney & Lafayette Dabney, both residents of Daviess Co, attested to her declaration for application. Lafayette swore he was a son of John Q. Dabney and was of the age of ten years when his father married Sarah and that she was still his widow. He knew his father drew a pension.
She was still receiving payments in 1890. A second application was from Pike Co Illinois, date 10 Jan 1890. Sarah Dabney was age 90, a resident of Barry Co, Illinois. She was married to John Q. Dabney as his second wife, in Lexington, Fayette, KY in Jun of 1818, by John Eltsmore, a Minister of the Gospel. Before her marriage she was Sarah Hartman. She was reported as having died, 5 April 1894. Her Bounty Land application was attested by George W. Perry and F. M. Dabney, age 60 who both resided in Barry Co - Dabney had known her for 40 years. Frances M. Dabney had also testified to her 1868 application. The file contains the copy of the Bill (H.R. 5777) which granted an increase in Sarah's pension from $12 to $30 per month during her natural life, passed May 15, 1890. A letter dated 18 Apr 1894 in the file, requests that the final payment which arrived the day before her death remain in the hands of her son who for years had nursed her and paid her funeral expenses and doctor bills - signed by L.N.Ferris.

John Quarles Dabney said to have died of Cholera - 1833 was the year of the terrible epidemic.
