Odessan Found Hanged in Cell.
A 66-year-old Odess cab driver was found hanged in his city jail cell Sunday afternoon less than 13 hours after he had been arrested on a series of midemeanor charges.
Pronounced dead at the scene was Dennis G. Randel, 1303 East 17th, after he had been found at 1:08 pm Sunday by jailer L. L. Baker
...Randel, a thin belt looped around his neck, was found hanging from the bars in the front of his cell on the second florr of police headquarters while Baker was making a routine check.
Baker said he had made a noon check and everything was normal.
Randel who had been arrested outside his home at 10:35 pm Saturday, was alone in his cell.
He was arrested after officers went to his home while investigating a hit-and-run accident, in which a car had damaged a fence at the home of Dorothy Nell Lee, 801 Wabash.
...He was born June 23 1906 in Yale, Oklahoma, and came to Odessa in 1938 from Monahans.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Leslie Randel of Houston and Stephen Paul Randel of 219 Santa Rita; a daughter, Vera Louise Randel of California; a stepson, David Pool of 404 West 34th; three sisters, Mrs. J. R. Dowel of 1303 East 17th, Mrs. Alma Mortendy of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Vera Lange of Whittier, Calif., and two grandchildren.
