Thelma (Bailey) Powell-Johnson, 77, of Camden, died Monday evening, Jan. 2, 2006, at her home. She was born May 23, 1928, in Dayton. Mrs. Powell-Johnson housed many foster children in Preble County. She was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Camden, and was very active in her church.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Johnson of Camden; five daughters, Kay Powell, Faye (Louie) Powell-Schmidlin, and Shirley (Tim) Powell-Lamb, all of Camden, Lela Rae Powell of Idaho and Brenda (Ed) Powell-Farmer of Florida; one son, James (Olga) Powell of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Delano "Denny" Bailey of Ider, Ala., Elwood Bailey of Sumter, S.C., and Phil Bailey of South Carolina; two sisters, Jamie Bailey-Thompson of Pennsylvania and Jane Sue Bailey-Wiese of Dayton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Clista Isaacs-Bailey; her father, Elbert Bailey Sr.; her first husband, Cloyd Powell; four brothers, Charles E. Bailey, Elbert "Sunny" Bailey Jr., Theodore "Pie" Bailey and Kenneth Eugene Bailey; and one sister; Kathleen Bailey.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 6, at the First Southern Baptist Church, with Pastor Greg Jackson officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. Nein-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
