Individual Details

Matthew P. Haden

(Abt 1773 - Bef Feb 1807)

There are a few records in Louisa Co concerning the Haden family. One of the more interesting is an Unrecorded Deed as listed in the book, LOUISA CO RECORDS YOU PROBABLY NEVER SAW OF 18TH CENTURY VIRGINIA, compiled by John C. Bell, 1983.
p.58 [p.3-4 of original] William Slayden & wife to Jos. Haden, 6 Nov 1802. Wit: Ro. Yancey Wm Kimbrough, R. D. Hayden, M. P. Haden [wife was Sarah Slayden], Jos. Haden of Fluvanna Co. Proven by Yancey & Kimbrough on 13 Jun 1803. Tract was 4 1/8 acres.
It would seem that the Haden family in this deed could only be Joseph Haden who married Mary Peatross and his sons Joseph Peatross, Richard D., and Matthew P. Haden. I have no other source indicating the name of Matthew P.'s wife.]

Matthew's name first appears in the Fluvanna co Tax records in 1795 as over 21 and appears each year after that until he died. His will, dated 17 Feb 1807, is on file in Fluvanna Co VA and names his children.
