CRASH INJURIES ARE FATE TO MRS. BATES, 50
Moberly aVictim of Accident in Which 9 Others Were Hurt
Mrs. Mabel Bates, 50, died at 7 o'clock this morning in McCormick Hospital as a result of injuries received in a two-car smash-up southeast of Jacksonville at 12:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in which 9 others were injured, not seriously.
She had sufferd a fractured right clavicle and facial injuries.
The accident occurred when a car driving by James B. Taylor, 17, Route 1, Jacksonville, sideswiped another driven by William Russell Gibson, 31, Route 3, Moberly, on a country road near the crest of a hill eight miles east and 1 1/2 miles south of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Bates was riding in the car drivin by Gibson.
Husband Crash Victim
Mrs. Bates was born northeast of Moberly and had lived her entire life in Moberly and vicinity. She was a member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church.
Arthur Bates, husband of Mrs. Bates, was killed January 7, 1935, in a highway accident south of Renick.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Wineinger of Moberly; two sons, Howard Bates of Hampton, N. H., and Walter Bates of Moberly; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Emmett Forrest of Moberly, and a brother, Lester Prewitt, of Moberly.
The body is at Snow's Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
