2 Apr 1863, Beverly A. Haden was paid for three barrels corn. There was a dispute over this account. There is in the file a letter written by Beverly A. Haden, stating that Capt. S. M. Sommers had commandeered three barrels of corn that Haden needed for his family's consumption and offered him the sum of $8.50 per barrel. The price of corn at that time in Fluvanna Co was $30 per barrel, if could be found, but Haden knew of no place where corn was available. He had refused the $8.50. He thought he should be allowed at the very minimum, $20 per barrel. There is a voucher signed by S. M. Sommers, Capt. stating that he received the corn, three barrels, but did not pay for it as Beverly A. Haden refused the price of $8.50. Sommers was forbidden to pay more by the order of his Lt. Col. A note written at the bottom says, "Received at Richmond on the 29th July 1863 of Chas. Morris, C. S. Army, the sum of Sixty dollars in full of the above account." Signed: B. A. Haden. Witness: S. or L. Haden. R. S. Dudley.
