Dr. Constantine Perkins

Found in Shelby County KY 1827 along with several of his siblings and his father.

31 Oct 1827, Constantine Perkins of Washington Co MO, gave power of attorney to his brother, Isaac B. Perkins of Shelby Co, KY to sell land for him there. Shelby Co KY DB W, p.444

By 1830 he is found in the St. Francois Co MO Census, Perry Township, with several males and no females. In 1840, He is in Greene Co MO: 1m 5-10, 1m 20-30, 1m 40-50, 2f -5, 1f 5-10, 1f 20-30.
Two Deeds in the Greene Co Deed Index: Constantine Perkins to J. G. Hammond; #440 dated 6 Aug 1841 & #477 18 Nov 1841.

This was probably Thurza's second marriage and she had a son by her first marriage that lived with them. Married by Wm. Walker LE

In 1840, Constantine was living in Greene Co MO. He had 1m 5-10, 1m 20-30, 1m 40-50; 2 females under 5, 1f 5-10, 1f 20-30. Three slaves.

He was the first physician of Walnut Grove Twp in Greene Co and served as coroner of Greene County in 1842. He went to California for the gold rush and died there.

Dr. C. Perkins, 1 slave, 5 head of cattle, 1 mule.

In the 1850 Census, Greene Co MO, Hh 1301, Constantine is listed as age 51, Physician, born in Virginia. Living with him is Thirza, age 30, b. TN. Samuel R. Trousdale, 17, probably Thurza's son, b. AR. Hariet E. Perkins, 14, b. MO. Louisa 12, Mary 10, Hector C. 4, and Lucy A. age 2, all born in MO. Also living with them is James Crawford, farmer, age 25, b. KY, and Cornelius Davidson, farmer, age 37, b. TN and William Davidson age 14, b. MO

It is said that Constantine died later in 1850, in October, in California. He had joined the gold rush.

28 Dec 1850. Joshua M. Bailey was issued letters of administration of the estate of Constantine Perkins. Heirs were the widow Thursy Perkins, and children Harriet E., Levia B., Mary Ann, Constantine H., Lucy A. and Martha M., all of Greene County. [The child Martha was probably born after the census date in 1850 - and she doesn't appear with her mother and sisters in 1860, so likely died young.]

There was another Constantine Perkins listed in Greene Co in 1850, this Constantine was born in Caswell Co NC and was married to Sarah "Sally" Pruitt. He was probably the Constant Perkins living in Hart Co, KY 1830 - 1840. They were third cousins, once removed.
