Rudy Comstock Sr., Grid Great, Dies; Rites Tuesday
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the James Funeral Home, Newton Falls, for Rudy S. Comstock, Sr., 59, 2633 South SE, a former professional football player with the famed Conton Bulldogs and a coach at Oklahoma A&M and the University of Washington. He died Saturday at 6:45 pm in St. Joseph's Hospital where he had been a patient for five days.
...Comstock played 11 years of professional football with Canton, the New York Giants and the Green Bay Pakers.
He also coached a professional team, the Pittsburgh Americans, for 8 years back in the 1930's.
...In September, 1958, he received a Distinguished Aluni Award and was entered into the Hall of Fame at Georgetown University, Washington, DC
...Born Aug 14, 1900, in Pender, Neb., he was the son of Allen W. and Eva Olson Comstock.
His wife, the former Frances Horsley, preceded him in death, Oct 30, 1954.
...Mr. Comstock was a veteran of World War I
...Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Humenik of Warren and Miss Ann Comstock of Warren, one son, Rudy S. Jr., who is director of the Honors Program at the University of Michigan branch in Flint, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Cleo Beach of Pauhuska, Okla., five brothers, Homer of New Hyde Park, NY, John of Pueblo, Colo., Paul of Pauhuska, Okla., Charles of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Roy of Gentry, Ark., and two grandchildren.
