Individual Details
Ebenezer Billings
(1 Jan 1684 - 20 Jul 1760)
Married Phebe Denison, 2 Apr 1706, Stonington.
An Ebenezer Billings of Stonington, CT, was a Capt in the 1st Regiment commanded by Maj. Gen. Phineas Lyman. Billings was in command of the 8th Company. From Connecticut Soldiers, French and Indian War, 1755-62. This may not be the same Ebenezer Billings - there is an SAR application for a Samuel Billings, Sgt in the Revolution, whose parents were said to be Capt. Ebenezer Billings and Hannah Wales.
Ebenzer Billing, 1760, Stonington, #532
His will was written Stonington and is very difficult to read. He named his wife as Phoebe - she was to receive one-half of his dwelling and one-third part of his lands and to pass to son John at her decease. Bequests of 5 shillings to: Sanford Billing, son of his son Ebenezer, deceased; son Jabez; son Nathan; his three daughters, Abigail ?Prentice, Phoebe ?Galmer and Grace Noyes; a child of his daughter Anna Spaulding dec'd. Son Christopher received two pounds within two years. Daughter ?Berridell Grant, five pounds within one year. Son John was to receive the rest of his property and was to be Executor. July, 1760. Signed with his mark. Witnesses: Simson Minor, John Holms, Sarah Howit
Probate: 29 Jul 1760. Proved by John Holms and Sarah Howit.
Inventory taken 29 Jul 1760.
This is apparently the will of his deceased son:
Estate of Ebenezer Biling, Jr. 1759 #531
His will was written in Stonington. Mentions his loving wife Sarah - obviously a second wife as he gives her the household "stuff she brought when he married her". He also gave her a mare and Negro boy and sixteen pounds, and a room in his dwelling house, and maintenance for her natural life. Names daughters Elizabeth Stanton, Phoebe Prentice, Mary Billing - 50 pounds on the day of her marriage or at age 18; son Sanford - one half of lands and payments to wife and daughter Mary; son Gilbert, one quarter of lands to be let out until he reaches age 21; son Elisha - the same as Gilbert. There was a daughter-in-law, Lucy and son-in-law Samuel - whose last name seems to be Goor - I presume they are stepchildren, children of Sarah. Executors to be Samuel Prestice, Esqr, and wife Sarah.
