A descendant noted there were maybe two or three children with the first wife, but Samuel certainly seemed to be living alone in 1860. The family lost tract of them.

The same descendant noted that Samuel's sister Caroline, still living in Richmond KY, purchased a small farm for Samuel in Jan of 1869, Casey Co. And his brother John came to live with them after the Civil War.
