Joseph Brown

(15 May 1701 - 8 May 1778)



Joseph and Martha resided at North Providence, on the Wanasquatucket River, near the Johnston line. Their home was a large white house with a substantial chimney in the center, on the north side of what is Chalkstone Ave. He owned a dam and mill privilege and was associated in business with his sons. Part of his land was in the present town of Johnston . After Martha's death Joseph married Abigail Whittemore and had three more children. In his will he names his granddaughter Anne Whipple (who in a deed of 1810 is called Anne Angel).
