Served in the Civil War. Wife Lula D. Haden of Timpson, Shelby Co Texas filed for her widow's pension 27 Jul 1929. Her application was appreoved 25 Sep 1929 and allowed from the 1st day of September. She stated that Charles Sims Haden died 31 Dec 1906 in Shelby Co. TX. She married him on 15 Nov 1877, in Rusk Co, TX. She was age 76, born 8 Apr 1853 in Rusk County and had lived in Texas all her life - in Shelby Co for 50 years. She thought Charles served about two years in the Texas infantry. She owned no property. Dated 24 Jul 1929.
E. H. Carter & Noble Weaver proved her application. F. C. Powell of Shelby Co stated he had visited in their home many times and had heard him discuss his Civil Ezr experiences. Mrs. D. L. Pullen, County Assessor, testified she owned nothing.
M. G. Beckham, a Confederate soldier drawing Pension #45069, stated he was personally acquanted with the applicant. Charles S. Haden served in the same Divions in the 28th Louisiana - he had already been in the service a year and a half to two years when I enrolled. He was with him at the close of the war. 20 Jul 1929
Request for his military record was made, 27 Jul 1929, to the War Department but none was found.in the 28th Louisiana.
J. P. Bearden, born 11 Nov 1840, in Tuscaloosa Co, AL stated that on the coing Nov 11th he would be 89. He served three years in the Confederate Army, enlisted in Ouachita Co, AR, in Camden and served until the close of the War and was disbanded at Shreveport, LA. He draws a Confederate Pension. He soldiered with Chas. S. Haden for more than one year - he was with him in the battle of Mansfield, LA and the battle of Pleasant Hill, LA. 21 Sep 1929.
The pension was allowed because of the testimony of the two men who had served with Charles.
24 Feb 1930. Application for Mortuary Warrant. Mrs. Nettie Victory of Shelby Co stated that pensioner Mrs. Lula D. Haden, File #46047, of Shelby had died 1 Feb 1930 in Timpson, Shelby Co. She was Lula's daughter. The undertaker also certified to the death, as did the physician who attended her in her last illness. She died of senility.
