SUSANNA [Longmire]

(1715 - 1783)

Parents said to be Thomas Turner & Martha Taliaferro. I have no proof for Susanna's surname or her parents. Another possibility often cited is Susanna Marshall.

The King George Co., VA Order Book #2, p. 619, dated March 3, 1749, states: "The nuncupative will of William Longmire, Dec'd was presented into Court by Susanna Longmire." (a nuncupative will is an oral will that must later be reduced to writing). A notation on the book entry stated that no will was found in the records. An inventory of his estate was recorded in Inventory Book #2, p.47, dated June 2, 1749.
NOTE: The above event took place after the proving of the will of William Marshal - see later. She was very much Susanna Longmire in March of 1749.

Found in online trees (WorldConnect & Ancestry) without any substantiation: William's wife possibly a Susanna, maybe Susanna Turner, b. abt 1715, d. 1783, daughter of Thomas Turner & Martha Taliaferro.
Many other trees regarding Thomas Turner's family show no such daughter.
And indeed no such daughter as Susanna is listed in the article on the Turners found on JSTOR (The daughter is SARAH - researchers have justified the connection and claimed Susanna & Sarah to be interchangeable names which of course they are not!):
The Turner Family of King George County &c (Continued), "The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography", Vol. 21, No. 1 (Jan., 1913), pp. 106-109

Researchers claim the following Sarah Turner Dixon to have been Susanna Longmire, which of course she could not have been since she had been married to William Longmire for about 10-11 years when she witnessed the following will and when the will was proved. It is interesting that her husband witnessed the will and there are later connections between the Longmire & Marshall families.
