Rev Henry Ledbetter

Part of Prince George County became Brunswick Co - and Henry left there by 1748 for Granville Co NC - an area which became Orange Co and then Caswell County in 1777.

1748 - Henry Ledbetter joined the Upper Fishing Creek Church (Baptist) in Warren Co from which he was ordained to preach in 1750 - he was sent to Craven Co SC to preach at Lynch's Creek but returned to North Carolina in 1761.

Prior to 1777, Rev. Henry had acquired 365 acres just south of Rocky Run Branch, an east tributary of Hickory Fork of Deep Creek. 10 Nov 1785 - his sons Joel and Daniel each patented land on either side of Henry's.

Henry and sons Joel and Daniel appear on the tax lists of St. James District, Caswell Co NC in 1777, 1778, 1780, 1783, and 1784. They all held as many as 4 horses and up to 11 head of cattle. Henry owned once slave, which appears as taxed to his widow Ede after his death in 1785. Edy, Joel and Daniel are on the tax lists in 1785 and 1786.

Joel Ledbetter, Daniel Ledbetter, Prudence Ledbetter and Elizabeth Ledbetter, all of Caswell County and Shadrach Forrest of Orange County, NC, are bound to each other in the sum of 500 #'s. The named persons, heirs to the estate of Henry Ledbetter deceased, have agreed to leave the whole of the estate in possession of Edie Ledbetter, wife of said Henry, to remain during her natural life or widowhood & then to be equally divided among us.
