Elizabeth Githens, age 36, daughter of John Brady & Roseman also testified that he always understood her father was a Revolutionary Soldier. On 4 April 1854, Roseman Porter of Butler Co, testified before Samuel Austin, Presiding Judge of the Butler Co Court. She stated her age as 87 and was applying under the Act of Congress passed on 3 Feb 1853. She was the widow of John Porter who had received a pension of $110. She was married to him in November 1832 and that he died 24 Sep 1833.
The next, on the 5th of April, William McKinney, James B. Hill, Francis L. Berry & Samuel Hill, all testified that they were personally acquainted with Reoseman Porter and knew her to be the widow of John Porter deceased; that they lived in the vicinity and had been acquainted with John Port for many years before his death. James B. Hill stated he was present at their marriage in the year 1832.
Elijah Porter also testified, stating that he was a son of John Porter, dec'd, who was a Regolutionary Pensioner. Elijah was present at his said father's second marriage performed by Benjamin Talbott, a Baptist minister, and that his father married Roseman Brady, a widow, at her residence in Warren County in the fall of the year, 1832. His father died in the fall of 1833. Roseman was still a widow and not remarried. He accompanied his father and Talbott to Warren Co. for the marriage, spent the night, and returned with his father and the new wife. Benj. Talbott died not long after as he was quite an old man and he lived at least 25 miles from the county seat of Warren Co, which might account for Talbott's failure to return the marriage license. Signed: Elijah Porter.
Roseman was allowed the pension beginning 3 Feb 1853, but she died 1 Jan 1855.
