Gershom Mott, son of immigrant Adam Mott and Jane Huley first appears in the records of Monmouth County, New Jersey about 1685. He was High Scheriff in 1697-98 and a member of the Assembly, 1707-1710, 1713.
In 1695 in married Catherin Bowne, daughter of Capt John Bowne, whose father William Bowne had settled in Monmouth about 1636 and died there in 1677. Gershom Mott is named as an heir in the will of Capt Bowne.
Mott wrote his will, 15 Feb 1730 and probate was granted 30 March 1733.
