JOHN Critcher

John lived first in Old Rappahannock Co - he bought land there, 21 Aug 1677. By 1682 he was in Richmond County, North Farmham Parish. He had a land lease, 29 Jul 1691, Westmoreland and apparently sold his land in Richmond on 9 Nov 1691. He was named in the probate proceedings of Robert Jadwin, 25 May 1692 (probably his father-in-law). Will was probated, 28 Feb 1693/94 in Westmoreland County.

The last will of Robt. Jadwin was produced in Court by the oaths of George Alford and Richd. Carwell two of the witnesses, and a probate thereof granted to John Critcher, executor therein named. Mr. Jeremiah Jadwin together with Critcher assume to indemnify the Court.
Ordered the John Critcher, executor of Robt. Jadwin do return a full inventory of the estate and Mr. Alexr. Spence, Robt King and Nathl. Garland being first sworn beofer Mr. Rosse or Mr. Newton do appraise the estate.

p.25 29 Dec 1692. Judgment granted Jno. Crutcher against the estate of Robt. Jadwin for 2750 #'s of tobacco.
A nonsuite is granted Jno Crutcher against Dr. Samll Warcupp for that Warcupp arrested Crutcher as executor of Robt. Jadwin and filed no declaraion.
Judgment is granted Jno Henmore against Jno Crutcher, Executor of Robt Jadwin for 1100#'s of tobacco.
Judgment is granted Mr. Thomas Flynt against Jno. Crutcher, Executor of Robt. Jadwin for 303#'s of tobacco.

p.43 31 May 1693 John Crutcher on list of Grand Inquisitors for the County for the present year, 1693. Richd. Handcock was to be sworn at the next court but failed to appear and was find 200#'s tobacco.
p.70 28 Feb 1693/4 The petition of Edward Berry (who married the relict and executrix of John Crutcher, who also died during the coverture and before probate of the last will and testament of John), letters of administration (cum testo. annex'd) is granted him of the estte of John Crutcher. Samll. Earle the Elder and Samll. Earle the Younger, security.
Ordered that Berry do return a full inventory of the estate of John Crutcher. It is also ordered that Mr. Joseph Churnell, Mr. Alexr. Spence, Mr. Thomas Garland, and Mr. Nathanll. Garland appraise the estate.

Deed from Thomas Freshwater possessed of a tract of land in right of father, Thomas Freshwater, dec'd, by patent dated 24 Aug 1664 - 7,221 acres to Thomas Freshwater, Richard Webley & Robert Davis. For 15,000# of tobacco in cask sell to Daniel Swillivant, all of the land excepted what was previously by his father and himself: Col. John Hull, 1000 acres; Wm Hamock, 300; Robert Wood, 200; Denis Swillivant, 250; William Davis, 1000, John Crutcher, 100 acres, Danll. Swillivant, 340. The total being 3190 acres, the remainder being 4,031 acres.

Deed from John Crutcher of Yoacomaco, planter, sell tract formerly purchased of Mr. John Sampson, to John Kirby of Rappahannock County, planter for 15,000#'s of merchantable tobacco in cask to be be paid: 2,500#'s now and 6,250#'s on demand after 10th of Oct next, in the year of our Lord 1692. The like sum of 6,250#'s to paid after 10 Oct 1693.

Being Oak, John Sherlocks swamp, SW to marked corner, Jno Shurlock's Swamp, SW to Chesnt on side of hill at head of foxgrape swamp, ...marked corner white Oak to the land of John Crutcher, dec'd, back line of James Williamson; land of Thomas Ridley, together with all timber standing which premisses are in the Parish of Farnham and now in possession of Henry How.

1 Dec 1697. Deed of Wm Tomlin of Farnham Parish in county of Essex and Ann his wife to John Stretchley of Parish of White Chapel in Lancaster Co. For 150#'s. Also mentions the hill above John Crutcher's plantation and James Williamson's patent dated 22 May 1650. Deed states that the county of Richmond was formerly Rappahannock, and Totaskey Creek

The following found online - no source provided but probably from estate settlement of Robert Jadwin.
John Critcher of the said county is the eldest son and heir of law of Jane, one of the two daughters and coheirs of Robert Jadwin, deceased, late of the said county, and that John Critcher now lives upon and inherits the land and estate of said Robert. That they well know that the said Robert had two brothers, John and Jeremiah, the last of which died in the said county without issue whose land and estate descended to John Critcher and Robert Parvis, son of Cicily, the other daughter of the said Robert Jadwin. That the said John Jadwin removed out of this colony, and the deponents have heard that he settled in Maryland, and further these deponents say not.
