The marriage record was badly transcribed and I much suspect Jane's surname was Cross, particularly since Gideon's sister had married William Cross.

Gideon's wife Jane does not appear with him in 1860 - he was living with his mother. In fact, she does not appear anywhere in Howard Co. that year. After his mother died and Gideon was determined to be "of unsound mind" a guardian was provided. The Settlement books of Howard Co seem to be missing at least two volumes. Jane Wright received payments of approximately $100 per year in the records that exist - until 1869 when she received nothing. She apparently did not figure in his estate division after his death - either she died (or remarried).
