Individual Details
James Winston
(1786 - )
Another date of birth as 1 Mar 1793 is given. The 1850 census gives James age as 60 or born 1790.
James Winston had land on Whipporwill Creek in Logan Co right on the Todd Co line. They may have lived in Paris, KY. Said to be in the Logan Co 1850 & 1860 census living with son Dr. James Winston.
However, this information is incorrect. In 1850, James & Lucy were in the Census; James age 60, b. in VA and Lucy age 58, also b. VA. Living with them were Alice age 30 b. VA and Olivia age 15 b. KY. James Winston was in the Slave Schedule with a single 60-year-old male slave. No son James found. The 1860 census shows two James Winstons, Dr. James W. Winston, age 38, and his 6 year old son of the same name. Dr. James born in KY but his wife Matilda and three of their four children including the eldest, young James, were also born in Missouri. There is no older person in the household.
I'm sure there were other children than those listed here. Logan Co Marriages indicates a Lucy Winston who married Joseph Statton on 26 Sep 1833; then lists Joseph H. B. Statton married Mary T. Winston on 13 Jan 1837 and they are listed in the 1850 census. Joseph age 37, b. VA, Mary age 32, b. VA and children Ann age 12, Robert, Martha & William.. Sally M. Winston married Thomas H. Simmons on 24 Feb 1845. O. W. Hobbs married O. B. Winston on 27 Nov 1854 [presumably Olivia as above]. There were no marriages for any male Winstons. The 1860 census was taken by a "B." Winston and a Bicerton Winston was one of the executors of the will of John M. Hogan who wrote the will in December of 1862. No other Winstons found in the Wills & Settlements books.
