Zack W. Turner passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008. He was born April 1, 1922, to Troy and Nester Turner in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue Chambless Turner. He is also survived by two brothers, Finley Turner of Fort Smith and Bobby Turner of Russellville; a sister, Wanda Van Horn of Canton, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers, Kenneth F. and James L. Turner.
Zack served 23 years in the United States Air Force. He retired as a major after serving as a pilot in World War II and Korea and having received various air medals during the period from December 1943 to March 1944. After being stationed in Japan, Germany and several states, the Turners retired to Van Buren. Zack was active at Trinity Episcopal Church and was the secretary/treasurer of the Oak Grove Water Users Association. He had a love of the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
Funeral was held July 8 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
