FORT SMITH - Finley Pascal Turner, 96, often known as "Friendly," of Fort Smith, died February 5, 2014. He was born August 17, 1917, in Van Buren, Ark., to Troy Lee and Nestor Fort Matlock Turner.
Finley served in the Navy during World War II, and he was retired from The Automotive Inc., where he was a salesman and was later named Sales Manager. He was a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee at Central Presbyterian Church and in his later years he joined First United Methodist Church where he served as President and Treasurer of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. He was an avid golfer until age 92, and he was an excellent rose gardener. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Finley was a member of the Dervish Club and was also a volunteer at Sparks Medical Center. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Lea Riddle Turner; his son, Charles Robert Turner; his four brothers, Leroy, Kenneth, Zack Weston, and Bob; and his sister, Wanda Van Horn. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Pendleton Turner; three daughters, Anne Turner of Little Rock, Janie Turner Lowe and her husband Chester, of Little Rock, and Patty Turner Lueck and her husband Dan, of Hot Springs Village; two step-daughters, Lynn Pendleton Nancarrow and her husband Doug, of Fort Smith, and Leslie Pendleton Cramer of Fort Smith. Finley is also survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jeanie Turner of Russellville; and several nieces and nephews including his namesake, Dr. Finley Pascal Turner, also of Russellville.
Family committal will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, in Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service in the church Narthex.
