Andrew was the second son of John Farley and his third wife, Elizabeth (Heaton). In settled in Lewiston New York in 1823, soon after his father's death. His mother and siblings accompanied him.

Andrew met and married Jane Bale in Lewiston and settled into farm life. They had twelve children.
