"No evidence her surname was Mullinax! Autosomal DNA matches that are more than two generations back can be badly misinterpreted - you never know which spouse you match in most instances. Adamson records give her surname as Williams. Please do NOT change her surname without actual documentation. It is possible she was a young widow when she married Wells Adamson - but that, too, would need actual documentation. DNA matches must be supported by paper documents."

David Moberly's response: Family stories and DNA evidence suggest that there may be a Mullinax family connection here, closely related to James Pleasants Mullinax. However, I will agree not to put that down as a last name until I have more evidence. I will add, though, that the Mullinax DNA connection is already demonstrably connected specifically to the Adamson line of descendants of Wells and Sarah. This gives the theory some additional support that it would not have if Adamson descendants had this Mullinax signature, but could not demonstrate that that signature was specifically connected to the Adamson line. I would encourage any descendants of Wells and Sarah, their half-siblings, or their aunts and uncles to please take a DNA test to help solve this mystery. Autosomal DNA, carefully analyzed, can absolutely be the key, here.

In the meantime, I welcome evidence showing that Sarah's last name was Williams, if it can be obtained. Thus far, I have seen it in several places online, but never documented. I suggest we not put the last name "Williams" down until we have documentation.
