Death of Grandmother Stroup.
Delilah Stroup ne Jones was born in Highland county, Ohio, Oct. 16, 1810. Was united in marriage to Daniel Stroup Aug. 23, 1833. Came with her husband to Indiana in 1836. Was converted and united with the M.E. church at the home of Simeon Swaim, about the year 1840. United with the Methodist Protestant church, about the year 1863. She was a devoted, unassuming christian for more than half a century. For the past eight years she has been an invalid, but bore her sufferings with christian patience remarkable for one of her age. She loved company and often spoke of the blessed good people for being so kind and good to her. She said when taken down this last time she was going to leave them. They might do all they could but she would not live, and when asked what she was looking for she said her mother.
She was the mother of two daughters, Lucy and Susan. She departed this life Feb. 12, 1896, aged eighty-five years, three months and twenty-six days.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. S. Jones, attended by a large number of relatives, friends and old neighbors. Interment was in the Mitchell cemetery.
