James married Martha Seal, 1 Jan 1842, Clinton Co, OH. He married 2nd to Rebecca Jane (Walker) Lightfoot, 13 Mar 1866, Miami Co. IN. From births of children it appears they were in Douglas Co IL by 1870-1880.
Through the Quaker Church he found that a Jeptha Lightfoot had been killed in the Civil war leaving a widow and two daughters. He applied for serviceman's pension for her and married her. He brought her home with him and they had four more daughters. (Edna Neese, granddaughter of Jennie).
Found in the 1850 census living in Clark, Clinton, OH with first wife Martha Seal and children. Martha's sister was living with them Rachel Seal age 20, b. in OH They were living next door to his brother Raleigh/Riley Garner and family. He was a farmer.
