Individual Details
Jacob Verdon
(Abt 1600 - By 1636)
Jacob's emigration was about 1626 from Netherland to New Amsterdam with wife and child. Jacob's family escaped Catholic persecution in La Rochelle (which fell to the Catholics in 1628 after a long siege) and fled to the Netherlands where they settled as religious refugees. Jacob was the Secretary of the Dutch West India Company and he is reputed to have made several trips back and forth to America. There is disagreement over whether or not he immigrated to New Amsterdam with his family. Either he did immigrate with them and died shortly after arrival or he died in the Netherlands just prior to the family's emigration.
