Patience Pike

(17 Feb 1738 - 23 Oct 1802)

Married first to Isaac Scriven and then Joseph Dawson. Dawson's will suggests a large family of children born before his marriage to Patience

Eastern Quarterly Meeting at Falling Creek, Dobbs Co. 2nd of 3rd mo 1772. Isacc Scriven and John Kennedy appointed to inquire about the John Ratcliff's family request to remove from Cane Creek MM.
According to Hinshaw, only four pages of the Falling Creek MM records exist (part of the Contentnea Meeting). In the 3rd month of 1772, Isaac Scriven requested the privilege of holding the meeting at his house since he was "sickly" and could not attend otherwide.

The first record I've found for Isaac Scriven is in the Quaker records of Core Sound MM in Carteret Co. NC. He requests a certificate to Perquimans MM. I don't know if this is the same Isacc but he requests a certificate to move to Cape Fear from Core Sound MM as well. He is in Dobbs Co. NC by 1772 as the minutes of Great Contentnea MM show that because of ill health he requests that the MM be held at his house.Isaac must have died in 1777 because Patience Pike Scriven was disowned for marrying out of unity of the church on 12 April 1777. That is when she married Jospeh Dawson. Isaac owned land in Dobbs Co.
Patience left a will in 1803 naming her children: Jesse Dawson, James Scriven, Susanna Hinson (her daughters Lovia Hinson, Patience Hinson), Alce Scriven, Hannah Thomas wife of David Thomas. From other records it appears that the Scrivens were merchants. Other than deeds that is all I have on Isaac Scriven.
Patience Pike was daughter of Samuel Pike and Sarah Overman daughter of Ephriam Overman. Samuel and Sarah Overman Pike children: Patience, b. 2-17-1738; Ann b. 2-28-1740; Miriam, b. 12-5-1742; Elizabeth, b. 12-9-1747; Mary, b. 2-27-1749; Susanna, b. 5-23-1752; Rhoda, b. 2 -22-1758; Nathan, b. 8-22-1760. They lived in Pasquotant Co. NC before moving to Northampton Co. to the Rich Square MM. On 3-15-1777 Samuel and son Nathan request certificate to move family to Great Contentnea MM in Dobbs Co. Obviously daughter Patience and husband Isaac Scriven were already in Dobbs Co. and Isaac may have already died by March of that year. I can send copy of Patience Pike Scriven Dawson's will if you like.
