Noah was the fifth child of eleven and was born in Tennessee where his father was a farmer and school teacher. The family moved to Illinois in 1826. When the family heard of the LDS church in 1837, Noah, his parents, three brothers and three sisters were all baptized. They moved to Missouri and suffered in the persecutions there and were forced to flee Missouri in 1838. By this time Noah had married Mary Dudley. He helped build the city of Nauvoo in Illinois but later moved to a small farm nearby. His wife passed away due to complications of childbirth with their 4th child. Ten months later Noah married Margaret Johnson and two years later, married Elizabeth Ann Jones.
In 1850, they came to Utah with the Aaron Johnson Company, first settling in American Fork where he is credited with building the first house. The next year, they moved to Springville. Noah was called on a mission to England and served there for nearly 3 years. He later married one of his converts, Louisa Rowley.
Around 1863, they all moved to Fairview in Sanpete County, staying for four years. They then moved to Fountain Green, about 20 miles away. They stayed in Fountain Green for sixteen years. At some point his mother, Sarah, came to live with him until her death in 1872. About this time, the government started cracking down on polygamists.
Noah decided to move to Castle Valley in Emery County which was more remote. Margaret did not make the move, but returned to Springville and lived with her children. Noah settled Elizabeth in Orangeville and Louisa in Huntington, about 10 miles away. Louisa’s first home was simply a dugout but Noah later built a log cabin where her last child was born in 1883. Noah split his time between the two towns until 1890 when the Manifesto was issued. After that, he lived with Elizabeth in Orangeville. He led an active life and had a cow and garden until the last few months of his life. He died at the age of 92, the father of 28 children.
