Rosa [Cleckler] Baker

(2 Jul 1899 - 7 Oct 1984)

Rosie & Carrie are too young to be children of the first wife and too old to have been born after the marriage of Anderson Baker & Adeline Cleckler.

The explanation for Rosa was found in a tree on Ancestry:
Rosa was born Rosa Cleckler. She was adopted by Anderson Baker (her biological grandfather). This made her name Rosa Baker. Later Anderson Baker left his wife Catherine Weldon Baker. He married Rosa's mother Adeline Cleckler. This made Anderson Rosa's adopted father and also her biological grandfather. Let me make it clear that Anderson was her biological grandfather and NOT her biological father. That award goes to Anderson's son named James "Jim" Baker.
Since there has been a misunderstanding about which Anderson Baker this was (there was so many) I will futher explain. Anderson Baker is the son of John Baker (who was one of the members of the founding families of Chilton County). John Baker was the brother of Alfred Baker (who formed the township of Clanton, Chilton Co., Alabama). John Baker also became one of the first sherriffs of Clanton. John Baker was also in the guiness world book of records for being the only man in the state of Alabama to vote Republican all of his life.

Married Henry Popwell, 25 Dec 1921. She is buried Mount Pisgah-Zion Ridge Cemetery, Clanton, Chilton Co, AL.
US Veterans Admin Master Index lists Henry Popwell with military service, 6 Nov 1918. Born 22 May 1897; died 1 Jan 1972.
