JONATHAN SPRAGUE

( - 1 Mar 1741)

The Ancestral file gave a date of death as 10 Apr 1756 - he would have been 107 years old. An online database gives a more probable date as Sep 1741, age 93.

Jonathan went from Hingham to Mendon and in 1672 was living near his brother, John, and his father-in-law William Holbrook. His father died in 1675 and left him 60 acres in Providence, RI.

He was a member of the House of Deputies for 16 years, 1695-1714, Speaker of the House in 1703, Clerk of the Assembly in 1707 and a member of the Town Council for 8 years, 1705-1712. He professed the Baptist faith.

23 May 1719, Jonathan Sprague made an agreement with sons-in-law William Jenckes, John Tefft, and Daniel Brown, deeding them his house and land; they to maintain him for life and give him the choice of which son-in-law to live with.
[apparently this was a little early - he's said to have lived until 1741, dying at age 93]

9 Nov 1719 Sprague deeded land to his son-in-law Ebenezer Cook.
