Elijah H. Mims

(8 Aug 1866 - 23 Oct 1948)

Elijah seems to be a Mims.

Elijah's father is a bit of a mystery.

Elijah Mims in 1870:
Prec 4, Baker, AL, Chestnut Creek P.O.
Elizabeth Mims, age 26
Elijah, 4.
V. J. Gragg, age 63, teaching school

Living in Clanton in Chilton Co in 1880 was:
H. C. Johnson, age 24 [probably a mistake in age or stepchildren in the family], b. AL as was the whole family
Mary, age 30, wife
Elijah, 13, son
M. J., 7, daughter
James, 5, son
Martha, 4, daughter
Willie, 2, son

One researcher has Johnson's wife as Elizabeth Easterling Mims, married 9 Feb 1872. I did find this marriage for Henry C. Johnson to Elizabeth Mimms. Doesn't completely explain why she is listed as "Mary" in 1880. Either she was unwed in 1870, or her maiden name was not Mims. Perhaps she was an Easterling, and married first to a Mims.

Elijah's Alabama death record gives the first clue to his father. He died 23 Oct 1948 in Clanton, and was buried the next day, Concord Cemetery. Age 82 at death. His father listed as Elijah Mims, mother just as Elizabeth. Spouse was Lettie Isbell Mims.

Buried with wife Lettie, Concord Cemetery, Clanton.
He was born 8 Aug 1866, died 23 Oct 1948; Lettie was born 17 Mar 1869, died 28 Sep 1940
Daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Mims is also in that cemetery. Born 4 Mar 1889, died 10 Aug 1970. She married Edward Minor.
Daughter Ellen Mims is also at Concord with her husband. She was born 12 Oct 1894, died 27 Apr 1965 in Montgomery. Ellen married Curtis B. Simms.
