John Hardin and Charlotte Council: John was born 29 May 1795 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, which became Ashe County 1799. He grew up in Ashe County. In 1820 he served a term in the House of Commons. On 15 August 1820 he married Charlotte Council, daughter of Jordan Council and Sarah Howard. On 15 September 1821 he purchased 245 acres of land from Jonathan Boone for $600.00. This was on the north side of south fork of the new River. John and Charlotte built heir home there in 1821. In 1828 John served a term as Senator.

In 1843 Charlotte drove the daughters to boarding school at Valle Crucis. On returning home, she became ill and died in Boone November 1. John was left with three young daughters, ages 9, 15 and 17, and a 13 year old son to rear. His oldest son Henry W. was age 22. John had an interest in the mine of Cranberry, In 1850 John and his son Jordan C. moved from the Hardin home and lived at Cranberry until after the Civil War. Jordan Hardin took possession of the mine during the war and worked 40 to 60 men making iron for the Confederate Government. John Hardin died 16 September 1869 at Elk Park, North Carolina.

The house John and Charlotte Hardin built in 1821 stood at 1406 E. King Street in Boone, North Carolina and was lived in by descendants until 1982. Children: Henry W. m Lucinda Horton, Sarah S. m George W. Snider, Elizabeth A. m John G Powell, Jordan Council m Julia Williams, Martha E. m John Snider.
