Sally ROBERTS, dau. of Hugh d 1794, married a Mr FURNACE & moved to Harrison Co Ky. (Madison Co Va will 1 p 51, 1 p 206; deeds 2 P. 222, 3 P 105, 4 P 50). "
p. 5 "Issue of 1 Nathan UNDERHOOD D 1802, CONTINUED" "13 REUBEN UNDERWOOD d 1790 Reuben bought 100 acres in 1771 from William STONE, and sold it in 1778 to Thomas MAXWELL which was between the Conway and Stanton Rivers. A suit shows that a mountain tract joining Hugh ROBERTS had once been occupied by Reuben UNDERWOOD. This tract passed from Francis KIRTLEY to James COLLINS (d1781) who ca 1773 sold the land bond to John OFFILL, who in 1775 assigned it to Reuben UNDERWOOD, who by December had sold it to William SIMS, who in 1778 sold it to Reuben CLARK (d 1813),
Zachariah TAYLOR deposed that John OFFILL built a house on this tract, and that Reuben UNDERWOOD lived in the house for a year or two. Nancy SIMS (widow of William ) deposed that when Wm SIMS paid Reuben UNDERWOOD, UNDERWOOD said "That he had got so much money that he would never work any more". (Madison Co Va Chancery suit 5A "CLARK vs COLLINS").
In 1779 Reuben UNDERWOOD witnessed the will of Joseph MINOR in Culpeper. By 1780 Reuben UNDERWOOD had moved south of the Conway into present Greene County. In May of 1780, Reuben UNDERWOOD, John KENDALL, Thomas FORTSON were appraisers of the estate of John FURNISH.
