John Hanan
(1795 - 25 Jul 1831)
There is a marriage record to Sally Sprigs in Logan Co in 1818. Online databases suggest she died in 1821 - about the time Susan was born. Some also give John Hanan's wife as Mary Elizabeth Price, but I can find no authority for that. With newborn Susan to care for, it is possible he married Miss Price, but there seem to have been no children by her. He married Elizabeth Norton in Clark Co, KY, 1 Sep 1824.
I found a John Hannon living in Fulton Co IL in 1830 - the same place Samuel Hannon was living. He appeared to be slightly older than Samuel, but I suspect this could have been John.
John Hannon: 1m 10-15, 1m 40-49. 2f -5, 2f 5-10, 1f 30-40
The family tradition is that John was killed by Indians while going for supplies. His wagon was found, but no body was ever found.
He had written his will 7 Feb 1828, as John Hanan of Fulton Co, Illinois. He devised that William Price Hanan and Susan, his two oldest children were to have the beds and furniture that he had when he married Elizabeth Norton. Elizabeth was to keep her bedding and furniture, etc. that she had when they married. Elizabeth to have use of all the personal estate and rent of the farm as long as she remains a widow and keeps the two oldest children. If they should be taken away, they should have their part for schooling after the widow's third. If she marries again she is to have only her third of the personal estate. All my children to have equal shares of anything not disposed of by the will. My widow is to keep my wearing apparel for William P. my son. Samuel Morse and Ezra Farechiles Executors. Signed: John Hanan
Wit: John C___, Henry Thomas/Thurman
17 Sep 9 (no year) James Hanan swore to the will and to give a just account of his administration.
3 Nov 1840 Witness affirmation of Henry "Thurman"
4 Apr 1832 Letter from James Hanan as Admin of John Hanan, dec'd. to "Brother" Dewey [the judge, Stephen Dewey]. Gave the ages of the six children as well as requested subpoenas to settle estate.
3 Oct 1832 Archimedes was appointed guardian of William P. and Susan Hanan until they reached the ages respectively of 21 and 18.
Inventory, not dated, shows the SW quarter of Section 26, Township 7 North, Range 4 East, and 7 lots in Canton; personal estate of livestock & households; note on William Hanan. There was a note: "Claim on Richard Hall & David McFall's heirs supposed to be about $75 and doubtful.
