LUANN TUPPER STANFORD of Tulsa, b. March 5, 1939, left our world on May 27, 2005, taking a significant portion of its light with her. Heaven benefits greatly from our loss, however, becoming a much livelier place with the arrival of its newest particularly feisty & fun-loving angel. LuAnn loved reading, working in her garden, and her family and friends with a fierceness that puts the summer sun to shame. Her sense of humor and adventurous spirit brought new friends wherever she went. Her deep compassion led her to wherever there was a child in need. Her extensive work with underprivileged, and mentally and physically challenged children, as well as her work in adult literacy, earned her nominations for Volunteer of the Year in both Tulsa and Houston. She fought as courageously as she lived to stay with us and for that we'll always be grateful. Her beautiful spirit will live on in the many hearts she touched. LuAnn is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Charles C. Stanford; daughter Cary Stanford of Houston, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Chris Stanford and Beth Gill of Richmond, VA; daughter Laura Stanford; and special family friend, Theresa Perkins; brother and sister-in-law, Jan and Carol Tupper of Joplin, MO; niece, Vicky Mieseler and her family of Carl's Junction, MO; nephews, Jon Tupper and family of Joplin; Joel Tupper and family of Tulsa; Jeff Tupper and family of Stilwell, KS. There will be a private graveside service for family. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at College Hill Presbyterian Church, 712 S. Columbia, Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, LuAnn's family asks that you honor her lifetime of volunteer work with donations to College Hill Presbyterian Church or Tulsa Firefighters Burn Camp.
