"Bro. W.A. Miller, one of the oldest and most highly respected members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, was born Nov. 23rd 1827, died at his home near Haden, Ala., Feb. 28th 1900. aged 71 years three months and five days.
He joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Mt. Pleasant in 1847, was made ruling elder April 28th, 1877 was made clerk of the session July 13th, 1878. For nine years Bro. Miller was afflicted with rheumatism, and for six years prior to his death, he was unable to walk, during which time his suffering was intense thought he bore it all with christian fortitude.
His greatest delight was to study and talk of the word of God and the interests of the church. He was a man of unimpeachable character. As a citizen respected, honored and loved. As a christian he was true to his convictions, faithful and loyal. In the deliberations of the church sessions he was regarded as a wise, safe and prudent counsellor, having always the interests of the church and the glory of God at heart. He was willing to do anything that seemed to him best to promote the cause of his Master. Therefore be it
Resolved, That in the death of Bro. Miller we have lost one of our most faithful members, one who was true to his church. We shall miss him in the deliberation of our church sessions, and when we visit the home and see the vacant chair and the room in which he suffered night and day for six long years...."
