Individual Details
Joseph Harmon [Rutherford, NC]
(1777 - Bef 1840)
Joseph was designated as a orphan after the death of his father, 1792, Rutherford Co NC, and was bound out to James Ross and wife Esther. The Ross family later moved to Monroe Co MS where James Ross died in 1821 - Joseph apparently did not go with them.
Joseph served as a private in the 9th Co, 1st Rutherford Regt, 8th Regt of the NC Militia in the War of 1812.
Joseph was first married to Margaret Tanner - they had a son Andrew born about 1804 and possibly another son named Joseph. After Margaret's death, Joseph married again. He married Patsey Geer/Greer, 25 May 1822, and they had at least two children, Elizabeth, born 1826 and J. R., born 1824.
Note: The data provided stated that there was a widow's support order in 1840 to a Martha Harmon and they believed this was a 3rd wife. Since Patsy is the nickname for Martha, I believe it is probably the same lady and he was married only twice.
