Joanna Minerva Truelove

(22 Mar 1833 - 13 Apr 1909)

Although this lady is placed in this family by some ...the Poindexter book gives only four children for Austin Truelove and Patsy Poindexter and no Joanna is listed. The Ancestry family tree that has a DNA match to me shows not only Joanna, but a number of other children, several of whom were born after Patsy died, ca 1833. The Poindexter database has added Johanna to this family - she certainly wasn't counted in the 1840 census, nor was she with her siblings that were living with their grandfather in 1850.

However, I did find Joannah Truelove on the same page as her siblings in 1850, Hh 1213 [the siblings were in 1209]. She was living with William W. Patterson, age 26 and his wife, Rebecca, age 21. Joannah was age 16. There were other Truelove widows in Surry Co in 1850, whose household Joannah could have been a part of - living in the household of Franky Flin, female age 78, was a Susan Truelove, age 48 and Frances 22, Mary 20, and Catherine, age 1. Rebecca Truelove was age 35 and head of her own household - Nancy 14, Henry A. 11, Mary W. 8, and Susan R. age 5.

Joanna married John Chalmers Davis, 11 Nov 1850, Yadkin Co NC. They had a large family of children, none of who seem to have carried the traditional Poindexter given names. Nor did anyone in this family join in the applications to the Dawes Commission. If their birth dates are correct, she was born too close to Martha Turlove for possibility. I suspect Joannah may not have been a child of Austin & Patsy Poindexter Truelove. She could not have been the daughter of Austin Truelove 2nd married to Rebecca Poindexter as they didn't marry until 1836.
