His prenuptial agreement with the second wife, Mary R. Turner, was that she receive at his death, a part of his estate equal to that of his ten children. He stated his two youngest, William and Samuel, had not had any advancements.

One of the sheets in the court file on Library of Virginia website shows a payout to eight heirs of William Hopkins.
John H. Guy had collected of Julius Harrison, on 17 Nov 1870 the amount of $700 and after expenses $679.16 was distributed in equal parts to:
Mary F. Hopkins [plainly F, not R]
Benj F. Rhodes in right of his wife Helen
Edwd C. Turner in right of his wife Caroline
Edwd Mathews trustee for Charlotte Mathews' children
Saml. A. Hopkins trustee for J. H. M. Hopkins
J. H. M. Hopkins as trustee for Eliz. McDearman
and for Sarah Bolings children
and for Mary A. Ware
Note: The prenuptial had specified 10 children and the widow to receive equal shares so three appear to be missing from the above list. There are no payments to William H and Nathaniel Hopkins who I definitely believe were sons - and Saml. A. received no share for himself. Those three would bring the total to 11 heirs.
