Although Mathew made note of the marriage and death, and age at death, of his first wife Priscilla, he did not give her maiden name.

She is often cited as Priscilla Grey, youngest daughter of the Rev. Anthony Grey, born 7 May 1615. However, that Priscilla Grey, died and was buried in her father's church on 20 Sep 1665. Unfortunately the bad data has been continued in Burke's Presidential Families of the United States of America. Susanna Capen Rockwell, the 2nd wife of Mathew Grant was an ancestor of Ulysses S. Grant.
