Individual Details
WILLIAM PERKINS
( - Aft 1736)
William Perkins and his family can be found in the book Descendants of Nicholas Perkins of Virginia by William Hall, but any relationship of William to Nicholas has not been found. There are similar names passed down in both families and many times descendants of both lines live near each other. There is a Perkins DNA Project and early indications are that Nicholas Perkins, b. about 1647 in Charles City Co, d. 1712 Henrico Co, VA, & William Perkins of New Kent were of the same family. Their Haplogroup is R2. How they may connect or in what generation is not known, but it is evident there was a reasonably close relationship.
Daughter Anne was baptised in St Peter Parish in 1699.

The source of the early Perkins records is "The Vestry Book and Register of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent and James City Counties, VA 1684-1786, edited by C. G. Chamberlayne, 1937.
The first mention of William Perkins in the minutes of the Vestry meeting is on 30 Sep 1723; he was to be paid the value of 650 #'s of tobacco per year for keeping Elizabeth Johnson.
Also from the St. Peter's Parish Records:
Tom a negro belonging to Wm. Perkins died Xbr 28, 1718.
Sarah a negro belonging to Wm Perkins died Jany 4, 1718.
William was married to an Elizabeth, but her surname is unknown. It appears as Wells in some online data.
From Perkins researcher Karleene at
[In the Parish Records from St. Peter's, there is a single entry for a Wells family: Delilah Wells departed this Life Augt ye 4th, 1715.]
William's son William is referred to in the Vestry records as William Perkins Junr up until 1736, after which time there is no longer a designation. Presumably the elder Perkins was deceased by that date.
