Samuel Lincoln

( - 26 May 1690)

Samuel was the immigrant Lincoln ancestor of President Abraham Lincoln.

Samuel was apprenticed to Francis Lawes, a weaver of Norwich, about 1633 and came with his master and family to New England in 1637 on either the "John and Dorethy" or the "Rose". A shipping list is said to have listed him as age 18 - which is odd if the name of the ship is not known. His older brothers, Thomas & Daniel had already settled at Hingham, MA. Daniel died unmarried in 1644, and left his brother Samuel the principal legatee of his estate. Thomas Lincoln, though twice married, also left no children, and when he died in 1675, he also left the greater part of his estate to Samuel and his children.

Samuel's wife was Martha, surname unknown. She died 10 Apr 1693. Samuel had died 26 May 1690, age 71. There were 11 children, eight survived their parents. Mordecai was the fourth son.
