Ancestry message board:
Thomas Huff b. 13 May 1819 in Floyd Co KY, helped the Benjamin Hale family move from Floyd Co KY to Jefferson Co Iowa, where Benjamin Hale had brothers. Thomas also had a brother, John Huff, there. You have his history from bio in "Jeff. & Van Buren Co IA" Later, Hales and Thomas Huff moved to Mahaska Co, where Thomas married Benjamin's dau, Ezilpha Hale, 12 Apr 1846. Thos. and Ezilpha eventually left Iowa and moved to Richardson Co NB where they lived the remainder of their lives. Thos. d 1903, Ezilpha d 1913.
There was verbal history in my family that there was a surname Pratt along Huff line. The TIE is found in the Deeds of Floyd Co KY, where Willliam Huff is buying land from his siblings. Bk E, page 298, Caroline Huff --"deeded from my grandfather James Pratt to my mother Elizabeth Pratt--" Then on page 449, John Hoff from Jefferson Co IA gives consent. Bk D, p 468, Thomas sells to William. I may not have picked up all the Eliz Pratt Huff children that could have been found through the Deeds due to shortage of research time in Floyd County. Land on Cainey Fork of Beaver Creek, Elk Lick seemed to be Huff land. In 1852 there was a forced sale by Wm. and James 175 ac on Cainey Fk, Beaver Creek. Perhaps your forefather on deeds with those "markers"?
In long past, I've seen the name Jermine as well as German W. Huff. Do you think your Jerman W. is same as Jeremiah Washington Huff b 1815 mentioned in Blue Ridge Heritage-Peterson? I have found no evidence. (Caroline above, not listed as child of John Huff/Eliz. Pratt)
I have no photocopy of Will of Thomas Huff of Mercer Co KY to share. A very old hasty note made from a Mercer KY Probate record is all I can offer. Thomas Huff--left slaves and property to Ellizabeth Huff, his wife. Thomas, Jonathan, Richard, William, Ursula McDonnell, Polly Briswell, Betsy Barnes, Nancy Lowry mentioned--1832, Bk 9, p 480, 490, 505
